Another snow day and speech therapy

Another entry on a snow day...yep that is right, 5 days total for us. I live in Texas...Texas this isn't supposed to happen! Everything today was fine, we didn't get near the storm we were expecting, but with what happened last week nobody wanted to take any chances.
For those of you who did not know, Sawyer has about a 6 month delay in his speech. This is due to all of the ear problems he has had from 4-10 months and two sets of tubes. We started having concerns when he was around a year, he didn't babble or talk and other kids around the same age and younger were way ahead. I know we are not supposed to compare our kids to other kids, but it was very apparent. At 15 months we brought the concern to his doctor who wanted to wait a little longer to catch up. At 18 months we were referred to Early Childhood Intervention who did a a full assessment of all of his developmental skills and a hearing test. There is no hearing loss, and everything is on level or above except for the speech.
Today he started his first speech therapy session. His therapist comes to the house and his daycare and they do play activities. He did really well! They "played" for an hour and he cooperated through most of it. It is very basic activities, such as when he stacks blocks she will say "up" every time he stacks a block. We are basically just trying to associate a word with everything that he does.
Next week he has a developmental therapy session that will address his communication needs while he is learning to speak. He gets very frustrated because he can't communicate with us so he uses sign language and other gestures until we can get him speaking. The goal is for him to have 20-25 words by the time he is two in June, right now he only has about 4-5. They will assess him every six months and he will continue with speech and developmental therapy once a week until he is caught up.
Well that is all for us...Jake and Sawyer went to the store to give me time to finish up some homework so I guess I better get started on that!
